Fall Fun Activity Packs Available for Families

CONWAY – October 23, 2020 -- To help those local families facing tight finances threatening to squeeze all the fun out of Fall, A Father's Place has put together 200 special seasonal activity packs.

"Children and families need to have quality time together now more than ever," says Wallace Evans, Jr., CEO for A Father's Place. "These unprecedented times are causing enormous stress on adults and children alike. A vital part of our program has always been providing fathers with ways to spend quality time with their children. Though COVID-19 has altered the way we do that, it hasn't altered our commitment one iota. It's made us stronger at the art of the pivot. So, rather than bring groups together at a picnic and flag football game, we are offering individual families creative ideas for spending time together and the tools to execute those ideas."

For Halloween, families who need help finding and funding fun can pick up fully stocked "activity packs" at The Rock Church's annual trunk-or-treat event in Conway on Saturday, October 31st from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The timing is perfect because the bags contain information about the rare blue moon that will be rising in the sky, the fixings for making S'mores, glowsticks and necklaces, lots of silly "dad" jokes, stickers and much more. Thanksgiving and Christmas packs will be made available closer to those holidays.

The South Carolina Association for Community Economic Development ( SCACED) provided the financial resources and United Way of Horry County provided the human resources with "Day of Caring" volunteers from CCNB, the Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce and others, to pack hundreds of bags.

"We are grateful and excited to have these partners come alongside us not only to make the packs possible, but also to underline just how important family quality time really is," Evans said. "This is when happy memories that last a lifetime are made. This is when bonds are built. This is when those important communication channels get honed. This is when we decompress and recharge. It's about helping families get stronger and healthier, which makes our community stronger and healthier."

A Father's Place is open and ready to serve, Evans said. Men wanting to be the very best father they can be are encouraged to call, as are men and women seeking employment, job training or re-training, or a new career path. Additionally, limited funds are available to help those with urgent needs. Call 843.488.2923.
