A criminal record generally includes all arrests, charges, convictions, and non-convictions that have ever happened to a person.
Not all crimes can be expunged from your record. You can apply for expungement without a lawyer’s help. But expungement can be complicated –and South Carolina expungements only erase South Carolina charges and conviction. Learn more about the types of expungement, requirements and how to apply.
Pardons and expungements are not the same, though people often confuse them. A pardon is the forgiveness of the state. If you don’t meet expungement requirements, you may file for a pardon. You don’t have to have a lawyer to do so.
Many adults are still haunted by mistakes they made in their youth. Some juvenile records are eligible to be destroyed by court order.
