After assessing the needs of low-income fathers and developing a holistic plan to address them, the Sisters of Charity Foundation of South Carolina favorably approved the group's request for funding and A Father's Place was begun in 2000 under the umbrella of the Community Coalition of Horry County. By 2003, the project was flourishing and growing and established a standalone 501c3.
Serving men from across Horry County proved challenging with just one office in Conway, thus in 2007 a second office opened in Myrtle Beach and in 2010 A Father's Place expanded again to serve fathers in Georgetown County.
Today, A Father's Place is one of a network of six fatherhood programs reaching across the state to help reconnect fathers and their children. The SC Center for Fathers and Families helps to coordinate this statewide initiative.
